| Due the culture of this country that
most of its people are Muslim, they believe in Quran the holy book
of Muslims. Chapters in Quran are called surah. One of these surahs
named "Al-Nahl" (The honey Bee) which has two verses (68 - 69) about
honey bee. In both verses the honey bee has been pointed with female
pronoun. Some ten centuries later, a Swedish biologist named Carolus
Linnaeus, discovered that worker bees are female. In the verse 68
have come: "Your Lord revealed to the bee
saying make your hives on the mountains, trees and every high
places. |

" Honeybees do in fact consider their
hives to be the highest places; their dancing language does not
contain the word "up." Centuries after the Quran was written, this
fact was discovered by Austrian zoologist Karl Von Frisch, for which
he won the Nobel Prize in 1977. And verse 69 of Al-Nahl states: … Beverage of many colors comes out
from them in which there is healing for human beings.” As a result,
Muslims believe in the curative effects of honey and other honey bee
products, and, therefore, in the value of plants to which bees are
attracted.

Iran,
formerly known as Persia, is a nation of about 1.65 million
square kilometers. It extends northward to the Caspian Sea,
Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkamanestan and Tajikistan, and southward
to the Persian Gulf and the Oman Sea. With these borders, its
climate varies so much that four seasons can simultaneously
exist. For example, while at a given time there may be rain or
snow in the north, the south will see fresh fruits, flowers, and
sunshine. Such an environment has made Iran viable for bee
culture and, consequently, the bee industry.
